Do Chinchillas make good pets?

Someone wants to give my son a chinchilla are they good pets?

yes, they make great pets and are very fun to watch as they bounce around everywhere. They are a bit of a exotic and have special needs for bathing and if you have more than one a special cage is needed too. I had one for some time and never really had any trouble with her. Good luck.

They do make good pets, but they're a lot of work and can be expensive. They can live anywhere from 10 to 20 years. So is your son going to want this chinchilla a decade from now? What will he do with it when he goes to college? How old is he? If he's a pre-teen, will he continue to give it the care it needs when he gets a girlfriend and goes off to hang out with friends? Chinchillas are also nocturnal, so it will make some noise at night. Make sure you have a vet around that can take care of exotic animals like chinchillas. Just a few years ago we had to take one of my boys to the vet because he had a malocclusion in his teeth. To fix that came with a hefty price tag of around $150. They are not cuddly pets, and they don't really like to be held or petted. They chew on EVERYTHING. They also require nightly runs in a chinchilla proof room. They also need a constant temperature, since constant change in temperature will kill them. Temperatures over 80 can kill them easily, and it's best to keep them somewhere where it's about 70 degrees. So have your son do some research before he decides that he's going to take on the responsibility of a chinchilla.

they can be really sweet dogs but some are not as sweet!  they are normal dogs just most people focus on the mean ones! so it depends!
