Do Chinchillas stink like ferrets?Do they bite because my 10 year old cousin wants one but we don't know.?

Chinchillas dont usually stink and ferrets shouldnt either.. unless your not cleaning the cage enough..ohh and by the way Chinchillas cannot have baths THEY CANNOT GET WET! sorry but its very crucial that you know that

Chinchillas do bite more than ferrets. They also have huge sharp teeth.

I don't think they smell as bad but they're more difficult to take care of.

Ferrets also won't smell if they're marshalls ferrets and are taken care of properly.

Stick with ferrets. they're awesome.

Chinchillas are VERY hard to take care of.  I would not suggest a 10 year old be the main person responsible for a chinchilla.  They will bite if mishandled, but do not have the smell that many people think ferrets have.  I highly urge you to do research on other small mammals and be sure that the 10 year old is not going to be soley responsible for the care of any animal.

Chinchillas can live up to 20 years,  they are not the easiest or cheapest small pets to have.  They don't smell like a ferret,  but if you don't clean they cage daily,  there will be a smell from that.  They do nip some,  but don't have the sharp teeth that a ferret has. You have to be very careful with their diet and you can not get them wet,  their fur will mat up.  They clean themselves in a special dust,  which will result in a layer of dust all over everything in the room.  Their cages, food and supplies will cost  a small fortune to set up correctly.  They have to be watched when out playing because they will chew on everything and anything (like electrical wires).  This is not a pet for a 10 year old.

Chinchillas don't really have any bad odors, and I don't think they bite too often either. I would get one if I were you, they're so cute!
