Question:

Do Clydesdale horses and Dalmatians have a special bond?

I know it seems like an odd question but I was just watching a commercial for Budweiser I believe and it had a Dalmatian "training" a Clydesdale(haha it was cute) and then I remembered when I went to Busch Gardens in Virginia there were Dalmatians in the area where they kept the Clydesdale. Or are they just like mascots for the company or something? I don't know just something I was thinking of.

  1. Dalmatians were originally bred to be carriage dogs. They ran on the ground under the cart - guarded it from robbers, barked to let people know they were coming (That's why dalmatians are traditional firehouse dogs! They were the original sirens for when fire engines were pulled by horses)

Lots of people who still drive have dals for "tradition"

Because of their history - dals are often very good around horses :)

  2. I don't think there is a special bond between dalmations and percherons, or clydes for that matter.

Horses can be funny about adopting other animals as mascots.

Maybe it is better to say as pets.

I have seen horses that would get quite upset if their pet goat, dog or duck (yes duck, trust me, a duck) was not near them.

I have no idea why horses do this but it is enough of a factor that people breeding and racing horses will sometimes have a special stall in the horse trailer for the pet when shipping the horse.

The horses don't usually get nasty or anything, it is more like they feel lonely and get the blues.

Maybe somebody in the horses section would know more.
