Do Coast Guard - Rescue Swimmers Go Out To Sea In A Hurricane?

I need some one to answer this who knows the actual answer, whether it's in a boat or helicopter do they go out to sea to rescue?

  1. Yes they do. The do rescues using ships during hurricanes. Helicopters are not used in heavy weather. Rescue Swimmers are part of all rescues whether placed in the water or not.


  2. Despite what the other reply says, helicopters do go out in heavy weather.  That's what the CG does! Our 2 different helicopters have different maximum wind speeds they can launch in, and of course, the final say is made by the Pilot in Command whether or not he or she go's, but whenever a hurricane strikes, the nearest air station(s) has both fixed wing and helicopter crews ready to launch, including the rescue swimmer.  I've flown my plane into a hurricane to investigate an emergency beacon signal.  And I've watched my buddies launch their helicopters during tropical storms.  There are no rescue swimmers on boats.
