Do Conservatives have a problem with Liberals vetting Palin just as Conservatives vetted Senator Obama?

There is no need for the Republicans to start whining now.

Senator Obama has been ridiculed by many Conservatives for many months. UFAIRLY by most accounts.

  1. Palin is not being vetted.  Random bloggers make stuff up and once respectable "news" agencies like CNN went to Alaska to dig up some dirt.  While there they found out about the Bristol pregnancy story, and then used it to springboard a lecture on the topic of s*x education which is decided by local school boards and is not influenced by a president.

Already discredited reports that appeared in mainstream print:

    1) Palin pretended to be the mother of her child when it was really her daughter's

    2) That she was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party

    3) That she worked and supported Pat Buchanan's campaign in 2000.

The only things that have come under scrutiny that have any bearings on her candidacy are her spending positions and the investigation for potential abuse of power.  All the rest so far have been on the level of the Larry Sinclair story or the birth certificate junk, all of which were discredited with facts and never covered by the mainstream media.  While many of Obama's decisions in the past are being grossly exaggerated by many conservative pundits, there's a difference between sensationalism and tabloid printing.  This reveals a double standard on the part of the media not to check its sources and is lowering their already low credibility and highlighting the overt bias towards the Obama campaign that strained relations with Clinton supporters who detected a sexist tone in reporting during the primaries.

In other words it is stupid because its just made the Republicans love Sarah oh so much more and distracted any and all attention towards John McCain.  Palin's convention speech is now going to be one of the most watched events in history and she is going to win oh so many hearts, good job.  You should have learned from Dan Rather forging documents this kind of stuff does not work the way you want it to, the novelty of Palin would have worn off eventually on its own but now conservatives are on a mission and talk radio is going in synchronized full gear (except for Savage who sees through all these clowns).

Obama is ridiculed by conservatives because he's liberal, duh, how many elections have you followed?

  2. Look up the definition of the word vetting. lol.

But while I do support Obama, I do agree that families should be off-limits. And while the Obama campaign hasn't done or said anything negative about Palin's current situation, the media certainly has.

  3. Palin should be vetted thoroughly by every possible organization or person.  When a person seeks to be VP of the USA, we the people have the right to know as much about her as we can.

I even disagree with Obama on the "family is off limits, and children are especially off limits" position.

A candidate's spouse greatly influences him/her, and yes, it's very ugly if the media remark about the physical appearance of a child, especially if unkind remarks are made, but an adult child is not off limits, and how a person handles a pregnancy out of wedlock is certainly connected to some election issues.

  4. picking on a kid is beyond reproach. I hate democrats for what they did to that girl.

  5. You only fear what you are afraid of. Vet away.

Just stay out of family affairs on both sides.

  6. It is in the nature of politics for each side to find the perceived weaknesses of the opposing party's candidates and attack them. in some cases these are pertinent in that they relate to policy, judgment, and history. In other they are based on personal life experience, history, association and family.

In general, and I believe that a reasonable amount of research would bear this out, that the republicans tend to attack on the personal issues more than the policy. This is a practice that I feel is repellent in that it clouds the real issues.

This is not to say that democrats don't either, but I feel that much of this is borne out of the need to fight back.

Whenever personal attacks are made the victim cries foul.

Where Palin is concerned, there is a valid reason to discuss her personal life as well as her political life.

    1. Given that her daughter is under aged and her and her husband's responsibility, then her actions do have a bearing.

    2. Also, given that Palin has portrayed herself as an ultra-conservative "family values" christian candidate, that ideas that those rules don't apply within her household

    3. There are aparently a number of other issues such as her stance on ear marks (she took them), The possibility that she actually was a secessionist, and may have misused her powers as governor for personal issues, and that she aparently has a fairly mean spirited nature.

In the end this points less to Palin than to McCain's judgement.

I don't believe in insult politics but there are valid issues at hand and deserve to be investigated in a respectful manner
