Question:

Do Contextual Studies for GCSE Art With CCEA Need to be from a Famous Artist?

I am on to my 3D project in GCSE Art (with CCEA) and I am working on my preparation pieces.

As with the 2D project our prep. work had to contain at least one contextual study. I was working on the theme of fabrics and chose a Michaelangelo piece. For my 3D project, I have chosen musical instruments. I have been unable to find a good musical instrument piece from a famous artist.

Does the contextual study have to be from a well-known artist? If yes, can someone please tell me some pieces to look up (good, relevant pieces are needed, and if there are any good pop art pieces that would be great!) I have found some excellent pieces of work from unknown artists who put their work on art sites but I don't know if the CCEA accepts this. If they do allow this, can someone let me know but also if there any kind of rules or restrictions if you choose a non-famous artist.

Thanks. :-)

  1. It has to be from a "recognised" artist but not from a "famous" artist. i.e you couldn.t use your Dad's work but you could use a relatively unknown artist from the Isle of Man. A good artist with musical paintings is Mr Pops
