Do Cows Eat Carrots or Other Veggies ?

Cows can eat carrots and most vegetables and fruits. Not only can they eat them but they enjoy them very much and produce well if given a steady diet of them.  If you travel in the northern Midwest about this time of the year you will see stacks of shredded pumpkins for sale as cattle feed.  If you are feeding milk cows, you do need to be careful not to feed them certain vegetables as they will give the milk an unpleasant taste.

We had an orphaned calf that I raised years ago.  We had a big garden that he would get into occassionally and I would look out the window to see him standing there chewing with all of this red foam coming out of his mouth.  I knew he had gotten into the tomatoes again.  He was not broke to lead so the only way to coax him out of the garden was to slice a cucumber (his favorite) and lead him out a little bit at a time.  Cattle only have one set of teeth in the front and he couldn't bite a chunk of cucumber off; thus, the reason for slicing it.  He was a lot of fun!

And if you send the cows out to pasture in the spring, and there's some wild onions growing there, you'll taste it in the milk tomorrow.

Yes, I live in a major veg growing/producing area and know farmers who have there whole beef system based on feeding various types of veg waste eg. blown cabbage leaves when they come out of store and any over production or veg that supermarkets won't take.  They pick it up from veg farmers around the area and then feed it straight to the cattle.

yeah. i was feeding some horses a couple of apples/carrots once & the cows came across, pushed them out of the way & started eating the food i was giving to the horses

They can do, but it has to be chopped up into small bits
