  1. no, thats an urban legend....

  2. Yes they they do bite off thier legs when thier trapped. it not a myth.

  3. Your question has probably arisen from a tale originating from the days when fur trappers used those clamp-type foot traps to ensnare their victims.   Foxes, Bobcats, Coyotes, Wolves, Beavers, Bears, and other animals were trapped this way to satisfy the so-called needs of people wearing fur coats and caps, etc.  Fortunately this kind of trap is outlawed in the USA as far as I know.  It is considered too cruel to use.  And, also, even more fortunately, most people don't want "real" fur anymore and will settle for artificial fur to make their coats, jackets, hats, bed spreads, etc..  Most real fur in the USA is from animals raised in captivity for that purpose, like Mink, Chinchilla, and Rabbits.  Any real fur, like from Bobcats, Lynxes, Coyotes, Bears, or any other wild animal is very, very bad to take and should be treated as a crime and therefore punishable by prison.  This is devastating to the environment, cruel to the animals, and in this day and age, there is NO reason for it.

Some of the animals, Coyotes included, that were trapped in those old-fashioned traps, did chew off the foot that was caught in the trap so they could get free.  This type of trap causes a great deal of pain, and since it's staked into the ground and restricts the movement of the animal, it creates a lot of stress.  The trapped animal will sometimes do "anything" to relieve this.

  4. yes, they do

  5. would you? i think not.

  6. Yes, they do. Dingoes do as well, and probably most animals that are trapped would do the same thing if left long enough.

I assume you are talking about the steel traps that used to be used years ago. They snap onto the animal's leg, and are very cruel. Animals will chew off their leg when they are caught in that sort of trap. If you're talking about some sort of trap that acts like a cage, no, there would be no point in them chewing off their leg when in a trap like that.

    Hope that helps.
