Question:

Do DJs need to check the venue in advance?

I'm hiring a DJ for my wedding reception and would like to know if DJs need to check the reception venue prior to the event. The place where my reception will be is not very spacious however there is a stage for DJs. If DJs don't check venue in advance, how do they make sure they sound systems and equipment will work? Are there questions I should ask? Thanks.

  1. It really is up to the DJ.  Some may want to do that and then others feel confident that they can work in any room.  Most DJ's can work with any room as long as there is an AC outlet in the room.

I do like to visit a place beforehand if it is convenient for me and not too far out of my way.

  2. If you are using a local DJ they may already know what the venue is like. Only a rookie would go. If you got this guy as a reference (most likely) and he doesn't need to look the venue over it should make you feel better.

Make sure he knows the set up better than you do beforehand.
