  1. I don't know in which country you are now, But in India the answer is 'No, not necessarily'

But tell you what......from my very personal experience I have seen, people who are really good in the English Language has an aptitude to Mathematics also..........just my personal observation.......

  2. It depends on the schools requirements. At my school, I'm majoring in English, but I'm still required to take a math class and two science classes.  Research the colleges carefully and ask questions when you visit those colleges, especially if you have to have an interview; that's a good chance to ask about this.

  3. Are you referring to colleges in the U.S?

If so, then generally yes they are but as the others have mentioned it is down to the individual school's policy.

You see, most universities have a general education program which all students must complete regardless of their major and part of the general education requirements is usually 3-6 credit hours of math and one or two classes of science with one of those classes involving lab time.

  4. Check with the colleges you are interested in applying to, they should have a recommended course stream that shows what you will need to take.  My roomates, who are English majors, studying have to take an introductory level math course during their degrees. One took a statistics class and the other chose economics.

  5. Most colleges have a "breadth" or "distribution" rule that requires students to take classes outside their major areas. Where I went to college, "group 1" was languages and art, "group 2" was social sciences, and "group 3" was science and engineering. An English major (who was in group 1) had to take 12 credits worth of group 2 classes, and 12 credits worth of group 3 classes. That's usually six to eight classes outside the major area.

  6. Yes, they do.  At the schools I have been to it is 3 hours of math and 8 hours of science.  But it also differs if you want a BA or a BS.

  7. it depends on what college you're going to.  a lot of colleges have math and science requirements, but some of them don't.  you'll have to check for yourself to find out.
