  1. Not a clean out ...... but there are some players who are consistently in and out of the side, maybe another team would be interested, a good player a good trade it might work to Essendons benefit. Essendon do have some great young players, which holds well for the future. Right now Essendon are going through what Hawthorn went went through about 4 or 5 years back.

Clean out --- NO  Vision ---- YES

One thing i would be thinking about is .... How much longer will Mal, Fletcher, and Lloyd be playing. When they leave its a big space to fill, maybe it's time to look at who they can get for when the time comes.

  2. "clean out" is a harsh statement.

more so i think when Sheedy goes, all the duds will be traded or delisted.

Im talking about Bolton, Bradley, Johns, Camporeale.

There is some good young talent there

  3. No I don't think so, They are a very young team and there is a fair amount of talent there. Players like Watson, Stanton, Slattery, Ryder and Windelick are all very talented but at the same time young and inconsistent. Essendon are going through a rebuilding phase at the moment and need to give young players like the ones above time to mature and improve. A 'clean out' of the list would only push the team further down for even more years then what they are looking at now.

  4. Some of Essendon's second and third tier players just are not it. As incredible and innovative that Sheedy is, even he can't win with this list. Sacking Sheedy was not the solution and will be a big, big mistake for Essendon, just as the sack for Norm Smith by Melbourne in the 60's has led the Dees to no premierships for 43 years.

Mathew Lloyd has not been much of a leader, can't keep himself fit, I understand. James Hird is the heart and soul of the Bombers, but just like Tim Watson and Simon Madden, you can't captain the Bombers forever plus continue to play league footy forever. The game wears the body out, some sooner, some later.

  5. Definitely a revamp would be in order. I wonder if Hird sticking around as a mentor would help develop the younger talents? I think a role like that would be beneficial.

  6. Maybe they should appoint Brian Smith next year. He's cleaned out Newcastle in 6 months. I know I know! He doesn't know anything about AFL, but don't worry he doesn't know anything about league either.
