Question:

Do FBI field offices have detention facilities?

I am wondering if FBI field offices, when they bring a suspect in for questioning, do they have facilities to hold the suspect (cells) or are the suspects housed at the local police department or county lockup?

Any help?

  1. If they have someone in custody they usually take them down to a local county or city jail if the Fed's don't have one in that city. Some cities allow the Fed's to lease out some space so they can house their inmates into sentencing. Kinda of a weird deal but that's only if they don't have a jail of their own. In their offices they do have temp cells but they don't keep them in there longer than they really have to. Usually until they get the paper work done or if they still need to question them.

  2. yes of course they have detention facilities. They have separate jurisdiction from the local police and do not usually mix suspects in with local inmates unless it is in some far out of the way place with no field office. They can share a facilities.

  3. Yes they do. Most LE agencies no matter how big or small have at least 1 secure area for holding suspects.
