Whenever I come downstairs at around 12AM, my fish always seem less active. During the day they swim around, but at night they go to the very bottom and swim slowly a few millimetersoff the gravel. Is this normal?

  1. Well fish do have a night and day cycle just like us.

so at night they do rest and become lest active.

  2. Of course it is! You may notice their colours are somewhat paler as well.  They're just resting/sleeping.  No need to worry, fish need to sleep as well.  So it's important not to keep the tank light on 24 hours a day.  Turn it on when you wake up and turn it off around the time the sun sets.

  3. yes. if  you keep the lights on at the late, late pm they will get stressed out and you may notice a change in color depending on type of fish. They are living and need rest time also. Same goes with live plants, they need a break from the lighting to grow.

  4. Yes, fish and all animals get tired just like you and I. They also sleep.
