Do NOT listen to anyone & there idiots. No offense everybody. I own HD-DVD player & yes your DVDs will work on your Toshiba HD-DVD player. Not only that, the Toshiba HD-DVD player will upscale the picture from the DVD & it will give  you Cristal sharp Picture. But, it is not hi-def.

Yes and most up-convert the format and both use blue violet laser differing GB's bit spacing, or some thing like that.

No. They require a blue-laser. DVD players use red.
