Question:

Do High Stall Torque Converters improve throttle response?

I'm thinking about having a reputable shop raise the stall on my stock torque converter to better my launch but how exactly does it make the car feel when I'm not launching it? Does it feel like it produces better throttle response? I would love it if the response was more crisp, it could make my 3800lb car feel less fat. =D Right now, the car feels sluggish during daily driving and I would very much like to change that. If you have anything at all to add, I would greatly appreciate it. Just in case you guys need to know, my car is a 1997 SC400 which has the 1uzfe (same as the LS400) engine coupled to the a343e 4 speed transmission.

  1. A high stall torque converter works by raising the RPM's the engine has to reach before the transmission is engaged. This by default puts the engine in a higher power mode at the time power is transfered to the transmission. For a daily driver I would not go any higher than a 2800 RPM stall converter. This will give you a crisper throttle response, quicker 1/4 mile times, yet will remain streetable.

  2. Get a K&N and some of those new platinum spark plugs with the four burn prongs on them, Might try a high-capacity Coil, and some new racing plug wires too.

    All relativly cheap stuff.

(Not sure what the h**l a tourque converter is.. lol. I've never dealt with automatics)
