Question:

Do I Always Have to Stand on my BMX Bike?

I recently just got a new Haro BMX bike, but other than using it to BMX, I also use it to cruise around town. When I'm riding casually, do I have to be in a standing position on my pedals? I notice that many people are casually riding in a standing up position, but I'm still in the process of building my leg strength and I'm not that comfortable with standing up when I'm not running over bumps and jumps...

  1. people stand because it is easier to get power to the pedals. the seat is usually so low because it will get in the way when you are trying to do some tricks so most people just leave it down all the time, but of course you can sit

  2. You can sit, it just depends on the riding your doing. I know if your jumping or racing you need to stand up. My bike shop has this Sunday morning ride that we do on our BMX bikes and we raise the seat because we like to sit down to maintain energy for the long trip, but occasionally we will get out of the saddle to sprint or jump off of things.

  3. Depends on your size, you could hypothetically sit, but it may not not be as comfortable because BMX bikes are made to be smaller and lighter. Also standing helps you put more power into your pedaling. If you find it more comfortable to sit, then do it.
