Question:

Do I Have To Wear My Army Uniform When I Fly to Duty Station?

I'm wondering because I just completed OSUT at Ft. Benning last week. I took some leave time, went home, and now I'm going to my first duty station (Fort Hood) tomorrow by air. When I'm traveling to my duty station on the plane and going from one airport to another do I have to wear my Army ACU's? Or would it be cool if I wore my civilian clothes?

Thanks

  1. We were always told not to wear our uniforms on an airplane because it makes you a target. If they want you to be in uniform when you get there they will give you an opportunity to change.

  2. You don't have to wear your ACUs...it's kinda suggested but you DON'T HAVE TO..because the day you get to Fort hood..you'll be signing in FROM leave..and they'll place you in some kind of temporary barracks(if you don't already have a place to stay).

It's not like they'll tell you to report to someone right away or tell you to go on duty ASAP...if anything they'll tell you to get settled in your barracks room & tell you to report somewhere the next day for "in-processing".

P.S: Now watch someone who in-processed in 1991 say.." YES you have to because that's the way it was 17 years ago..so you have to do the same thing I did!!!"

    Remember....It's The New Army now....

  3. If you are traveling on a MAC flight you must wear your uniform regardless of which service you are in, unless you are on leave and flying SPACE A.

  4. It is smarter to wear your uniform. The army backed away from that "makes you a target" c**p years ago.  Its actually recommended because it gets you out in the public and makes other passengers feel safe at the airport.

I'm assuming you're flying to DFW, then to Killeen airport.

When you get off the plane, you'll go to the baggage area, there is a desk near the baggage area where you'll get a mini-briefing from someone. Usually its an e-5 in his class B's.  He'll call the base, and they'll send a big white van to come pick you up and take you to the reception battalion.  You'll want to have your ACU's on when you show up at the Reception Battalion, so its probably best to wear them on the plane.  At the reception battalion you'll get a room and some paperwork.  It takes 3 (business) days to in-process and get assigned to a unit.

I will warn you though, the reception battalion has a lot of tradoc type rules, and you will get dropped for stuff just like in basic.

    Good luck.

  5. No don't wear them. If for some reason you need to be in uniform they will let you change.

  6. No.  You can wear civilian clothing.

  7. It depends.  If you are going to report you need to be in uniform, if you are going a little early, you can fly in your civilians.
