At my ice rink the floors are rubber . Do I still need to put my guards on? I have guards, I'm just wondering whether or not I should use them. Thanks!

  1. honestly, no. You don't need them. However, it is seriously reccomended to wear them whenever if you have the oppurtunity to protect your blades and the floor. Its the same way at my rink. People dont wear theyre gaurds when on the rubber, and their skates stay just as sharp as the people who do. Rubber doesnt do damage to blades.

  2. YES!  You should ALWAYS wear guards - even on those rubber mats.  There might be dirt/particles you can't see . . . brought in from "outside" by everyone wearing shoes, walking on those very same mats.  Stepping on the dirt/particles can cause nicks in your blades - which means more sharpenings and a shorter life for your blades.  Guard your blades - guard your investment!!!  :)

  3. The guards on your skates are to protect the blades so you do not have to have them sharpened.  The other reason is to protect the floor.  if you value a good edge and have to pay your own sharpening fees, use your guards.

  4. It is best to always wear your plastic hard guards when you are walking on the rubber floor. Typically the rubber floor can damage your blades and cause them to dull much faster so it's certainly best to always wear your guards when you aren't skating, and to always put your soakers on your skates after you skate.

  5. yes even though the floor is rubber there could be parts of thing that can dull them. the floor can also dull your skates very fast

  6. it would be a good idea. it will keep your baldes sharper longer and keep them clean.

  7. You don't necessarily need them every time you walk off the ice, but you do need them if you're walking around for longer periods of times, rubber or not. Guards are good to have so you don't need to sharpen them as much and they stay clean, but they are not compleately necessary.

  8. yes, anytime you are off the ice you need to put them on, not only to protect the floor but to protect your skates
