Do I need Whey in the morning to keep myself out of a catabolic (muscle-burning) state?

I eat a high-protein breakfast, consisting of oatmeal, 2 boiled eggs, 1 sunny-side up egg on wheat bread, and an orange.

  1. actually body can digest 50-60g of protein at a time at least for a male anyways i looked that up :) and u want something quick to get to ur muscles ur breakfast sounds good cuz eggs are a very quick digesting protein and they are packed with nutrients whey i take pre and post workout along with a piece of fruit banana pre and a protein bar with milk post then a big meal an hour after :) so no not necessary for u if ur eating that

  2. If you eat a high-protein breakfast, like you said, then there is no need for Whey. Whey is a protein substitute and is only needed if you need extra protein in your diet because your lacking. I suggest only taking Whey for pre and post workout.

  3. Whey, or any protein powder for that matter, is not a replacement for food-based protein. They are called "supplements" because they should supplement your method of eating regular foods.

Right after a workout, drink whey. Right before bed, drink casein. This is for the time it takes to digest, plus special times (post-workout window, prevent catabolism during sleep).

In a pinch, yes, you can and should have a protein shake if you can't make yourself a breakfast. Sometimes, a breakfast for me is a scoop of protein in a glass of iced black coffee.

  4. No need you take enough proteins in the morning.  Have your whey after workouts in order for your body to rebuild the muscles you trained

  5. It definitely wouldn't hurt.  Just 1 scoop would be good.

  6. As the body can not digest more than 25grams of protein at one time I wouldn't suggest taking it with your breakfast. However, having it as a snack an hour later might be a good idea.

Pre and post workout as others have suggested is also very important to prevent muscle catabolism.

Also, do not exceed you body's protein daily intake. Make sure you are taking about 1 gram of protein per pound that you weigh.

  7. Sometimes I actually do 1/2scoop whey in my oatmeal before workout to add more protein. you can add whey to a lot of breakfast foods: oatmeal, pancakes, whatever. btw whats ur email address
