Hi

I am thinking of travelling to Italy and France for 6 months and wanted to know if I would need a visa? The longest I will stay in one place is 4 months but will be in Europe for 6 months in total. I am from Australia.

Thanks for the help!

Jess

  1. No visa needed

  2. The only time you do not need a visa is if you are passing through a country that means not leaving the air port or dock..

So the answer to you is yes you would need a visa to stay in Italy unless you are a citizen of the country.

  3. no i don't believe you need a visa for that period of time.  technically you are only supposed to stay in either of those countries for a maximum of 3 months, but this is not really enforced.  if you really wanted, you could apply for a schengen visa, but i don't believe it necessary.  make sure you have a return ticket, or ticket to leave the country you are in and you will have no problems.  avoid the UK if possible.

EDIT - aiddog5 is totally wrong!  australians are able to pass freely, without a visa for varying time periods, through the majority of countries.
