Do I Need to HAve Decorations and plants in my fish tank?

Just Wondering do i have to have decorations and that in my tank or can it be just gravel and some stones and that, im wondering cause my female guppies are gonna have babies im looking for more room in the tanks. ANy Ideas.

you dont have to but they prefer it and you have more chance of the babies surviving if you have live plants

No you don't have to put things in the tank but they might prefer it if you get one of those large rocks with a whole in it they might want to lay their eggs there. (You can get those at a pet store or walmart.) You also might want to buy some fake plants so they can hide from what they think are "Predators".

not really but it can help u see the bacteria that kills the amonia can b housed in and on ur decor and also ur gravel/sand also its important not 2 clean it all at once as the chlorine in the tap water would destroy alot of the bacteria id say wen cleaning ur tank do a 20% water change (depending on the condition of ur water) and clean roughly 1/4 to a 1/3 of ur decor/gravel/sand

yes especially if you want any of the babies to survive! Not having hiding places (plants and decor) will lead to higher levels of stress. Not good for pregnant fishes. Also you need plenty of plants live plants especially for all the fry to hide in if you don't want moma and other fish from eating them as soon as they're born.

edit: first poster has the wrong fish in mind...guppies give birth to live fry not eggs.

no you do not need to have declorations but if you are not going to get a breeder tank for the babies they will need hiding places other wise the adult fish will eat them

and the one that said a rock so they could lay their eggs is lost gupies are live bearers they don't lay eggs

if you want live plants make sure they are true aquatic plants not the ones wal-mart sells

you can look at www.liveaqueria.com for some ideas of plants if you have put salt in the tank forget the plants the salt will kill them
