Do I always have to be "on"?

Sometimes I just don't feel like making cute voices to my baby and playing with him and making him smile. Sometimes I want to just be quiet while rocking him or just look at him without talking. Sometimes Im too tired to say anything. Hes 10 weeks old. Will this damage him socially?

  1. it's definitely okay!! quiet time is nice for babies, they enjoy it too.

  2. It will not damge him, babies also like their quiet time!

  3. not at all.  The most important thing is holding your baby not baby talk

  4. More then fine. I used to like quiet time also, them gazing up at me, and me gazing down at them. Such a wonderful feeling!

  5. Babies (h**l everyone) need quiet time too.  It teaches him that it's ok to sit quietly and just enjoy your surroundings or your thoughts or the world.  He needs down time as much as he needs your voice and you talking to him.  Plus, if you are constantly engaging him then when he's a toddler he won't be able to play by himself.  That will be hard on you trust me - my son is like that and it is really hard.

Also, sometimes I would put on some nice classical music for my son while I did something else or just rested and he loved it - and that's very good for his developing brain.

  6. Babies need their quiet time too. My daughter actually enjoys it more than me talking to her. Don't get me wrong, she's the happiest baby I've ever seen, but she really likes her down time.

  7. I think if you DID talk to him constantly, it would be damaging.  There are times in life where you need to have time to think or just space out.  Every moment doesn't need to be filled with chatter.
