  1. It really depends on the exchange rate.  Because of the weak dollar. Some countries won't accept US $.  If the exchange rate of the peso is still like 1$ to 5 pesos then yes take dollars - they'll be accepted.  It wouldn't hurt to take pesos but if you are okay with the exchange rate take both.

  2. The currency  in Mexico is PESOS.

Is it that Americans are so arrogant that they can not respect another country's  currency.  Do Americans take Pesos or Canadian $

Last time I was in California I had a burger and a coffee and the guy threatened to call the police when I told him I only had Can $

The last bank I went to in the states with Pesos , they looked my like I was some kind of NUT.

PESOS ARE THE OFFICIAL CURRENCY OF MORE COUNTRIES THAT THE DOLLAR.

You Americans get quite freaky with any foreign money at your restaurants and bars and gas stations.

Get off your high horses and respect Mexico !!

Change your U.S. DOLLARS AND BRING YOUR BANK CARD WITH YOU.

Mexicans accept your money out of courtesy and respect, what do you do or say when presented with Pesos?

  3. Bring your US cash.  You'll be able to find an ATM that gives you pesos if you want but most places will accept US currency.

  4. I've been to Mazatlan & you should bring U.S. $ with you. In a lot of the resort areas they will take U.S. $ but you should also exchange some of your money into pesos. There are areas, particularly, in the old part of town where it's much easier to buy with pesos.

The best place to exchange your money is at one of the local banks--they give you the best rates-- & never exchange your money at the airport--they give the worst rates.

There are parts of the old downtown area that is an excellent shopping area & you'll find your best deals but you'll need pesos & you should know some spanish. Bring a spanish-english dictionary. These areas have the best shopping deals, the cheapest restaurants & cheapest hotels.

The shops in the resort hotels are expensive. They have a public bus which will take you all over the shopping areas & it costs practically nothing & taxis are inexpensive. Just ask to be taken to the old shopping district; it's where the locals buy & sell. HAVE FUN.

You will definitely save money by using only pesos while in Mexico. It's true that many businesses will accept US Dollars but they will ALWAYS round off the exchange rate in 'their favor'....Every merchant in Mexico knows 'exactly' what the current exchange rate is on any given day.The vast majority of tourists don't have a clue. You will get the most favorable exchange rate from ATM's and Banks but it takes longer at the bank. The ATM exchange rates are adjusted electronically every day. I use a Visa debit card because it is accepted at more ATM's in Mexico and Central America than Master Card. ...ATM's in Mexico dispense only Pesos.

  6. Use your Debit/Credit card for purchases to get the best exchange rate.  An ATM will do the same.
