  1. People say different things. Some say you should start brushing before teeth come in to get them used to it. Some say no toothpaste, just water. They do make baby toothpastes that taste like fruit, with no fluoride, that are safe to swallow.

  2. There is a gentle toothpaste made just for infants. Start now to keep them healthy.  If you are uncomfortable with using toothpaste then use pediatric mouth wash/rinse with an infant toothbrush. Gently brushing will help the gums soften up while the teeth are coming in, and may ease the baby's teething discomfort.

  3. yes, start early, and teach them soon.

  4. Yes just water, just to get them used to it.....no toothpaste until 2-3 years old and they learn to spit it out instead of swallow it.

  5. You should brush your baby's teeth and gums.  You can use a clean wet wash cloth and rub it over the front/back/top of your baby's gums and teeth.  Gerber (and a few other manufacturers) make tooth & gum paste especially for babies with no fluoride.  The also make finger tip brushes (usually come with the infant tooth paste).
