Do I call a plumber?

I just noticed a large 2 sf section of my kitchen wall that is dampened. I think there is a slow leak somewhere and probably causing some mold growth. I'm not fairly handy so any advice on who i should call to get this address and any idea on how much it cost would be appreciated.

Yes you definitely should some mold can be horrible there are some types of mold that can do damage to your body there is a man that had a flesh eating disease from this mold its only like a 1 in a 99999999 chance but that mold can lead your house to smell bad and a lot of bacteria in your house you may get sick.

Knock on door of a neighbor or call your parents to get name of reliable plumber.  Word of mouth is best way to find a good repair person.

If you have to remove wall-board to get to leaking pipes it make take a hundred dollars or more to repair.

If you can take the wall-board out yourself, and see where it's leaking, it may only take a tightening with a wrench.

Most likely it's a rusted out pipe, and part of that will have to be replaced too.

Good luck, the mold can be dangerous, so don't wait too long to get things dried up again.

Get the phone book and call a plumber. Shouldn't cost more than a couple of hundred, unless the plumber is a crook. Supervise the plumber and routinely ask how much longer will it take. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. Be sure to ask him how much he charges for labor and you keep up with the parts and their prices.

ask your neighbors what plumber they use...

if you are not handy don't attempt this yourself..

don't tear out the wall, wait and see what the plumber says, he may be able to solve the problem, from the top or bottom....

If you are not handy, call a plumber. The cost will depend on the problem.

Is the damp spot around the dishwasher or a sink or frig with ice/water. If so see if the connection is leaking.

If the spot is directly under a window and you have been getting a lot of rain then you may need a carpenter instead.

It may cost you some money but letting the problem go will cost you a lot more. Ask the plumber if he charges to give you and estimate.

Tricky question really. Kitchens, steam, condensation rises, accumulates on ceiling trickles down wall. Poor brickwork outside causing water to seep through walls ?

Dodgy gutter, downpipe, rising damp? call a builder, he's more suitably positioned to advise.

Tear out that part of the wall right now, that mold can make you very sick.  Then with the pipes exposed you might find the leak, call the pro to put in the pipes its worth the money. Call around each plumbers has different rates for house calls and repairs.
