I'm student and I have those two choices to study and live for a while. I would be pleased forever if you guys helped and led me on that.

London: i know the currency is different, what sometimes makes things more expensive; Nice accent, love it; jobs I dont know; seems to be in a rush.

Dublin: I heard that for a big city it has one of the highest quality of life; i dont know their accents, i dont know if it looks like british or american; i heard u can easily find jobs in pubs.

I'm asking the same question in london part and dublin - fair enough =)

  1. Dublin has two main accents - the posh accent, which is also known as 'West Brit', and the Inner City accent, which is hard to understand.

Don't go to either, go to Ireland, but outside of Dublin. You would have no problem understanding the accents of any of the other cities anyway.

  2. I'm from San Diego and just spent 20 months living in Dublin for work and hung out with a bunch of med students from the States.  I have also lived in London.  Ultimately, it depends on what you are looking for.  if you would like to go to school in a big city (like NYC) then London might be for you, if you like smaller more intimate experiences, Dublin might work better.  I would not live outside the city or in another Irish city unless you are interested in a small town experience.

Dublin Pros - very manageable city, easy to walk around, nice people.  Trinity is a nice campus environment.  UCD also nice but you will require public transit and it isn't in the city center.

Dublin Cons - While getting more cosmopolitan, it is still a small city and you will find your cultural options limited if you actively use them. Healthy food is lacking especially in the low to mid-priced range.  Expensiveive but not as bad as London.

London Pros - Way, way better cultural options than Dublin, including museums, theater, music.  Tons more historical stuff to see.  Lots of sub-cultures so you can find anything you like.  Very easy to travel to other parts of Europe (via low budget airlines or ferry).  Far more and Cheaper flights to more cities in the States.

London Cons - VERY big city.  Public transport can be crowded and take a long time.  Expensive to live. Interesting blend of modern and historic.

As for jobs, I can't comment on these directly.  I think you'll have a good experience either way you go.  Good luck

  3. Stay away from Ireland unleass if you wanna be a second class citizen. I don;t lie you, there is no offer to tell you lies. The Irish are racists and unexcusable cold with the foreigners. London of course, They have an influx of foreigners for years and years. My friends from Portugal lives in Dublin and has been attacked by drunken nationalists while his friends has been abused as a "******" cause he has a darker skin. Stay away from Ireland.

  4. Dublin, definitely!! I've lived in both cities, though I'm originally from Dublin!! I'm living in Cork city at the moment and there is know way I would consider studying in Ireland outside of Dublin! The city has a great atmosphere and the people are really friendly!! Although both london and dublin are beautiful cities, Dublin, in my opinion, is more suited to the student lifestyle!!

    Good luck!!

  5. Dublin is almost Britain without the pound. Its a smaller safer city but the public transport is nothing but shite. Its easier to find things and its less about money.Rent is alright view daft.ie to check agaist London.

  6. dublin can be expensive and if you do go there get a job with good pay and where there are lots of people

  7. Try Finland instead......

  8. Dublin! Ireland all the way! It's kind of that New York-Boston relationship.

New York- London= Kinda Gross but some people like it because of it's large size and pricey-ness.

Boston-Dublin= Small, clean(er), has a certain charm and uniqueness.

  9. After living in Madrid for a while I don't think I could live in Dublin or London.  The standard of life is good in both if you have money.  If your not making a fortune then expect to get ripped off when it comes to paying for public transport, accommodation, bills and food.

Both will be expensive but probably London a little more so.

I wouldn't describe Dublin as resembling either America or Britain.  There are plenty of Georgian buildings around, the streets are not divided into blocks and it has a lot of character.

Because Dublin never went through an industrial revolution when compared to many British cities like London, Glasgow or Manchester or even Belfast. It certainly could not be said to have an industrial feel.

London is a massive city (around 6 million) while Dublin is relatively small (under 1.5 million).

You'll find crime in both as well as friendly people, and I would imagine your chances of getting casual work are about equal in both.

Using the minimum wage as a barometer you are probably likely to make more in Dublin, especially given the value of the Euro and assuming you are from an EU country.

  10. Ireland NOWAY!!! Dublin has one of the highest quality? Is this a joke????

I live in Ireland for almost 2 years and I am packing up and leave. It doesn't seem to be civilized at all. I live in a very posh location in Dublin and I was racially abused a lot of times, despite I am from West Europe. It's the only country that I didn't get friends. Dublin is a very lonely city. Even I know a lot of Irish people and the most of them are lovely they are very restricted in getting friends with people from other countries. I don't understand why... It's not my business. Good only for the Irish. It could be a great place for the starter but if you wanna climb very high then choose UK. The most of the Irish are really cold and not welcoming. This is what I got from my stay here. I know I socked you but it's not the friendly country as they say. This is what I supposed before coming here. The atmosphere is like a big village. The public transports are not great at all.  The schools and the education is not up to Eu level. The unemployment rises dramatically due to the credit crisis. Dublin it's very busy and very dirty. You can find litter even in the poshest locations even inside the buses, trams, trains, smashed bottles in the streets that could cause you serious problems. Sad but true. I am sorry I cannot find the high quality you describe. That was all a political campaign. The government encourages people to relocate in Ireland and that because it used to be a scary place to live a few years before and the locals really need others to get a lesson and know and learn a little bit from the world outside. I DON'T TELL YOU LIES. It was an Irish ambassador you told me that.

Actually the minimum wage per month could be 1400 euro and the average of the 1 bd apartment is 1100... Does it sound good? Unless if you wanna live with other people but if this is the great quality you mentioned then tell me what is the worst??? I don't say that London is cheaper but sure you can find a great value if you try outside of the city and the public transport is fantastic. Actually the pound is weak at the moment so you can find it easier maybe.

For your consideration a few people I know were living in Dublin and they are pretty happy when they relocated in London. It could be dirty as well but think that it;s so big... Sure you can find places that could suit you. And it's a great city for the foreigners.

In your case I would pick up a small city something like Edinburgh, Cambridge, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Oxford... But it all depends what you wanna do. Uk is not only London... But not Dublin. Avoid it at all costs

B.T.W  The 70pc of the foreigners who live here in Ireland are pretty unhappy!

P.C Try both. Life is traveling my friend!!!
