Question:

Do I come off as the cocky runner?

I was in gymnastics for about 10 years. Now that I'm a full-time runner, I still like to keep my tumbling/gymnastics skills, so I incorporate flips, back flips and the occasional hurdling during my runs.

I make sure no one is around when I do it (for safety reasons), which is pretty easy, considering I run on mountain trails. But on the rare occasion someone does see me do it; would I come off as a stubborn runner? What would you think if you saw me doing that?

  1. I say your just like ME, rock on!

  2. i beleive you are an idiotic runner

  3. Usually distance runners can't jump so I'd be a little surprised.  I wouldn't think you're cocky just a little unusual.  If you like doing, it's OK. It's your run.

Personally, I'd separate the gymnastics from the running.  From a safety point of view, doing flips during a long run may not be as safe due to the fatigue.  You may be more prone to injury because your muscles and tendons may not like going from running, ie. slow and steady to explosive. If I were 10 miles from home the last thing I'd want is to pull something.  I do core strengthening exercises several times a week but I don't stop in the middle of a run to do crunches and leg lifts.

  4. im sure anybody who sees you would be able to tell your not trying to do it to impress somebody as long as nobody is noticably near your...on a side note if you can incorporate flips into your run it seems like you have a little too much energy...lol
