Question:

Do I get Liberty After I Leave Navy "A" School?

After i graduate Navy boot camp, i will be going to "A" School in Pensacola, FL for 4 weeks. After i graduate "A" School, do I get liberty before i am sent to wherever i will be stationed at? If so, how much time do i get off? Does the Navy fly me home first, or do they send me directly to where i will be stationed at? If i get to go home, do i have to pay my own fare out of pocket, or does the Navy pay for the travel home or to my new assignment?

Please help clarify this situation for me, thank you.

  1. Ask you base counselor.  He or she knows or should know all the current policies.  I got leave after A and B schools and the Navy flew me home, but that was a long time ago.  Get the current info from the base counselor so you can plan accordingly.

  2. all that's up to you and the navy...liberty is time off...leave is earned ...what are you going to school for (rate) ?

  3. its not Liberty..it's leave and there is a difference between the two. (Liberty is limited to 96 hours at a time)

you will have a Report No Later Than date on your orders.  it could be a couple of days after you finish A school..or it could be a month.

the Navy will only fly you from A school to your duty station.  anything in between is on you to pay for.

  4. You can put in a leave request after A school. The Navy does not pay for you to fly home. They will cover the expenses involved with traveling to your permanent duty station.
