Question:

Do I get a fine for missing a Illinois toll in a rental car?

Ok. Embarassing confession. I'm in a rental on I-294 in Chicago traveling through some pretty heavy traffic from O'Hare. I see the toll ahead but mistakenly travel through on the I-pass lane instead of the cash lane, missing the $.80 toll. My question: am I going to get a fine for missing this? If so, how can I avoid the fine and pay the toll?

I caught all of the other tolls, but it's annoying and highly inconvenient (much like driving in Chicago traffic).

  1. You can log onto www.ipass.com, within 1 week, and click on "pay missed tolls"

Otherwise you'll end up with a $20.00 ticket.

  2. When you rent a car, any parking tickets or traffic violations are the responsibility of the renter.

    Mich1's response is absolutely correct.
