I've read that if you are a citizen of a hispanoamerican country you can apply for spanish citizenship after 2 years of residence in Spain...

Can I therefore find a temporary job or do an MBA of 2 years and apply to Spanish citizenship afterwards?

I really would love to live in a country like Ireland and I think that if I can get spanish citizenship (as a EU country) I would be able to work there

  1. i don't know about getting the citizenship but i can assure you that if you have a EU passport you can travel anywhere and work anywhere in the European union just like any another citizen...... i don't know where from south america you are from but some countries its easier to get the spanish citizenship then others...... try talking to your embassy in spain, look up the number

  2. I'm sure you can become a citizen in most country's,but the kicker is once you give up your citizenship up the united states, you can never become an America again

But you can go to a another country but you would have to come back every  six months.

You may have to join there branch of their armed services, if you become a permanent citizen,  if you lived in Sweden ,Holland,Switzerland , or Denmark, law may not be to hard,England,Ireland , Wales , would be less had if you committed a small infraction , other country's would very dangerous to be an American.

  3. No, you would have to live in Spain 2 years AND be married to someone who has the nationality.

  4. To become a spanish citizen you have to live and work in spain for 12 years i have been living here for the past 7 years. If you are coming from an EU country you can apply for a residencia card if you are going to buy property if you are going to rent one then you dont need to do anything as the residencia card gives you tax cuts when buying and selling property as a foreign resident. I have friends who work for the policia local and they tried to get some family over from south america it has cost them lots of money and lots of time. If you enter spain on a tourist visa you will need to leave the country and then come back with a working visa, these can be very difficult to get and can cost alot of money as people out side the EU must be able to prove that they will not be a burden on the state and can support them selves for a year and have private medical insurance to cover them in spain.
