I have a small boil about the size of a dime (doesn't look too bad and hurts slightly) on my neck that has been there for a couple days and hasnt got any better. I also recently developed a three striped red lines side by side on my elbow as well that burn. I went to the ER room last night and the doctor didnt think it was anything serious but is treating it like a staph infection. After reading all the symptoms over the internet Im concerned that I may in fact have had contracted MRSA somehow be it randomly outside or from a cat bite possibly not sure. Im sort of scared and confused as it seems all staph infections now have a 50/50 chance of being MRSA and people say that it is in fact very deadly and permanent.

  1. Well if your that concerned go have it checked out by your doctor, they will do a culture on it, and get it analyzed, you won't get the results back for about 48 hours. If it is MRSA they will put you on some very strong antibiotics. Good Luck!

  2. Only a infectious disease specialist should tell you whether you have MRSA or not. However, it is not "deadly and permanent".

I had a close friend that had it and now she doesn't...that simple. It only means that it is resistant to common treatments for staph. In order to treat it, you may be subjected to multiple treatment methods and/or combinations until on is found that works.

Relax, you're not going to die.

  3. MRSA IS NOT PERMANENT.

MRSA is simply a more antibiotic-resistant form of staph. I have MRSA staph and all I have to do was take some very strong antibiotics and it was gone in a week. If you are concerned you might have it, go to the doctor and tell them so. They will take a culture of the boil and run some tests on it. They should know by the next day the results. Don't panic, MRSA staph and regular staph are both treatable, you will be fine as long as you keep in touch with your doctor.

  4. MRSA only means a resistant staph infection. It is harder to treat ,  but it will be treated eventually. Read more about it to reassure yourself. If it doesn't get better go to your doc and they will try something else. Like the 1st guy said, Relax. You are being treated, so you should be fine.
