Question:

Do I have OCD? (food-related).?

OK this is fairly long winded. I think I may have OCD related to food. At the moment I am 6", and 116lbs. I limit the things I eat to very specific things, and I can't have particular sorts of food, and the food I can have is only acceptable if it doesn't have anything else, either on the plate or on the thing itself - for example, I can't have sauces or anything like that. I am aware that I am underweight and noticeably skinny, and should put on weight, but the 'cure' is overwhelmingly scary that I find it hard to even entertain thinking about doing anything about it.

I realise a diagnosis can't be sorted by the information I have given you, but if you could give me a recomendation or your opinion, and possible help I could get ( Ican't go to a doctor or anything as I am currently out of the country for give months).

Thank you very much.

  1. A lot of people limit themselves for their whole lives to just certain foods. Usually it is a very small variety of foods they stick to. I have a cousin who has eaten only cheese and sausages for his entire life and he is a happy, healthy adult. You could however have some form of OCD or a closely related condition and you should really get yourself checked out by a doctor and a psychologist to rule any thing more sinister out. Good luck.

  2. its not ocd ,more like an eating disorder, either way you need to see your doctor

  3. You might. When you start taking things to the measure where it gets unhealthy or unsafe, its more then beeing picky

Although i am pretty picky myself, that doesnt stop me from weighing 100lbs more then you(im 6'-3")

So See a phycologist, or just try eating food, dont worry about whats on it, you can always spit it back out

  4. Unless you have food allergies, you should not be so strict with what you eat.  You are missing out on a lot.  When you get back home seek out a psychiatrist to help you work out this problem through therapy and medication.  Good luck.

  5. lots of people are picky like this, and yes, it can sometimes be a low range form of OCD.

can you drink shakes or anything like that? protein shakes such as slim fast optima (NOT the powder kind from GNC or other body building type shakes--those can destroy your kidneys very quickly) are great for gaining weight in a healthy, regulated way.

  6. You are most probably just a fussy person (no offence)

My uncle is very similar to you because he does some of your symtoms, and only eats his fry-up in a certain order. You probably haven't got it, but it would be best to check it out with your doctor when you get back.

  7. no it sounds more like an eating disorder, are you not eating these things because of weight gane/loss? you should eat a bit of everything to get what your body needs until you can get to a doctor all you can do is force yourself to eat as much as you can and when you get back see your g.p
