Question:

Do I have a chance to actually go pro at snowboarding?

I just started snowboarding this year I've gone about 6 times and I must say I'm progressing very well. I'm able to go down any hill and carve nicely and I can do front side and backside grabs off jumps and sometimes I land 180's. Is this a good start for me I'm only 15, do you think I have a chance to get far if I keep at it?

  1. Lets put it his way. Shawn White was sponsored at 8 years old. The progress on snowboarding is so high that the chances of anybody going pro is very low. Being that you just started at 15 is a big set back. People need to stop trying to go pro and just enjoy the sport. Have fun with your friends and love the mountains. Not every kid that picks up a board will go pro and thats OK. Don't skip college to go get sponsored but love the sport.

  2. Keep at it and sure its possible.

Go up with guys who are as good as you want to be, and tag along.  This is probably the best way to progress.  Being a girl, it was a little easier for me to be able to convince guys better then me to let me tag along, but hey, I'm sure you can figure it out.

Also, play around on the hill all the time.  It gets you comfortable on a board.  Jump off everything you can find.

Keep pushing yourself, be brave, go up a lot, and have fun.

There is no guarantee you will go pro (its pretty d**n hard these days) but even if you don't it will be a fun time.

  3. You can get as far as you want...It is a great start! Not everyone can do what you do! Practice will get you better and better each day. The best secret to succeed is never say never! And never say I can't cause that really gets you down emotionally. Best wishes keep on practicing.

  4. Depends, progression varies from person to person after that.  There is no way to tell this early.  You have to really think about whether or not you want to be sponsored.  I've heard that being sponsored isn't always that great.  Sure you're famous and get free stuff, but it kind of turns into a job, and not really just for fun.  Instead of working on a trick just for the feel after you stomp it, you begin working on a trick to put food on the table.

I'm not trying to hold you back.  If you really want to get a shot, start hitting rails and pipe.  Sounds like you haven't really ventured into the other aspects of snowboarding freestyle yet.    And pipe seems to be all the craze right now in mainstream snowboarding.   You need to fill in those areas.  I used to not really respect Shaun White that much because I only saw him ride pipe.  However, after seeing him ride rails and kickers, I respect him more now.  Now I want to see him take more risk and try backcountry.

Like pdx said, ride with people better than you.  They'll be able to help you out and help you progress.

  5. I Kind of depends on where you live.

If your a midwest kid, I'd say get your 360, And start competing. The more conest you win the better chance you have.

Now If you live On the west coast. Good Luck.

    ps. I'm a midwest snowboarder.

  6. sry dude u need a lot more experience.  U have a chance but u need to get up to the mountain a ton more, u should slow down and just get better for now, don't concentrate on trying to go pro yet.

  7. id say you could but you have to relize you have to be in the best100 people in the world to even have a chance but if you work for it you can get

youd really have to want it

    You can do it!!!!!!!!!

  8. i agree with the whole regional thing its gonna be ahrdest to recognize u in the west cause so many amazing kids come from there, better chance in the midwest and east.  yea you'll wana start doin contests, but hav u done rails yet, thats huge, you want to have a good rail game in order to compete. you never know, you could be sponsored by a major company. start with your local shred spot or local shop first.
