  1. Dude wait until you get to college then worry about it!

  2. Dr. Gil Morgan was a walk on at his University.

He had a Scholastic scholarship for med school.

He was an average golfer by school standards when he started school, but kept practicing and eventually earned his spot on the team.

Drive for show and putt for dough, but you have to get on the green.

Focus on you short game 75% of your time, out to 150 yards. Putting 20% and your driver 5%.

  3. You are only young to be thinking about college, keep practicing and playing as much as possible and no doubt you'll be able to play college golf.

    have a good one...

  4. i searched and found this quote in an article:

"What about scoring averages? For boys, a midlevel Division I college is looking for a scoring average of 75 or better. The Top 20 schools are looking for scoring averages around 72. For lower tier Division I schools, as well as Division II, coaches are looking for a tournament scoring average between 75-80. Division III schools will be interested in players with scoring averages from 75 to 85, depending on the program."

id try to get in some tournaments also.

  5. Hey, I played college golf for a UNC team. There are a lot of colleges out there with all kinds of different skill levels. My high school team could have competed with most college teams, my senior year I had a 72.4 average. I was 3rd on the team. If you can break 80 90+% of the time you can probably play for a college team. Now you will NOT be playing with an extremely strong team nor will you be able to get a full ride shooting around 80. BUT, if you can AVERAGE(not a 3 handicap) around 75, you can at least play for a college team and travel (this will be a smaller school or maybe a private school!). I have seen guys who averaged 80 playing golf in college, of course they were not getting any financial aid and they were not on a very good team, but they were playing!

So, keep playing and practicing and you can play in college.

  6. Your answerer did indicate parameters for the various division golfers. It is possible for you to play college golf if your handicap improves to a scratch to -3. The major schools like Stanford, Arizona , Texas , Florida and Florida State would expect players to have a plus rating where their average score is better than par. So keep at it, develop a great short game, an accurate drive and above all academic honors for most schools are no longer catering to golfing dummies.

  7. i was 1 seed my freshman year and wanted to know the same thing, for an average american college you need to average 71
