I have never had a credit card, and I don't plan on getting one until I find it nessecary, does this mean I don't have a credit rating? And don't you need credit to buy a car, or anything like that?

  1. They might have your information on file, but you might not have a FICO score yet.

You don't need a credit score if you pay cash for everything.

  2. you need to establish credit before you get a credit report....so far there is nothing to report about you....and yes you need good credit to get a car

  3. Don't use freecreditreport.com because it's a commercial website set up to sell you credit monitoring services.  Instead, use annualcreditreport.com which is set up by the big three credit reporting agencies to comply with the federal requirement that everyone is allowed one free report from each CRA each year.

If you want to verify that annualcreditreport.com is the right one to use, go to the FTC website, ftc.gov, and read about it there.

If you don't have any credit reports, you will find out when you try to get yours via annualcreditreport.com.  And since it's free there is no reason not to go ahead and try it.

  4. You may...you may not. It depends on whether you have applied for a loan, etc. Some people think that renting an apartment will establish your credit, but that is false. The only way that will give you any credit is if you got evicted or something else like that. You should check your credit online at freecreditreport.com. That will tell you whether or not you have any credit good or bad.
