Question:

Do I have a decent chance of talking to any Cup drivers or their crew chiefs at the track during race weekend?

I heard a guy on Sirius NASCAR Radio say this week that one of the best things about NASCAR is that the drivers and crew chiefs are more accessible to the fans than other sports. Is this true?

I am going to Talladega and Texas Motor Speedway for the first time this fall, but don't want to get my hopes up...or blow money on pit passes if it's not worth it. Sorry if this comes off as a stupid question, but the comment that I heard on Sirius this week really stuck with me.

  1. get autographs yes...have a conversation no.

  2. Yes, the guys on Sirius Radio know what they are talking about. Nascar drivers, crew chiefs, teams are very accessible, more than any other Sport there is.. If you are going to Texas, listen to Superdave, he knows that place like the back of his hand...

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  4. Yes the Sirius guys are right when saying that the drivers are alot more accessible and more willing to sign a autograph or just talk to you. There are no other sports that come even close to  Nascar drivers or crew guys in my opinion. I cant speak for Talladega but Ive been to the fall race in Texas in 2006 and had pit and garage passes and it was well worth it. Its the best time I have ever had at a sporting event bar none. Have a great time at both of them!

  5. From all of the different fans that I have chatted with that have been to

races and had pit passes, yes, they have been able to talk to drivers

and crew chiefs. Many of them got autographs.

  6. I thought that a garage pass was better than a pit pass.....but I am glad to have had the chance for both....too much fun.........

  7. i was at a daytona race one year wearing my bodine hat and 7 flag the crew had the car on the track and i was next to the fence the crew came over to me and we chatted for a while everone in the stand was trying to come over so its posible when i was younger i was also at daytona in the infield and got a ride into the pits on a team trailer the driver told me to hop on so i got some good pictures of richard petty his autograp and some hauler pictures along with other cars didnt see to many driver around the garage but plenty of team members and cars and went to tach to watch them disassemble the gatoraid 88 car after he won dw was the driver

  8. You can with a pit pass. I have several pics of my buddy with drivers and crewmen in the pits at The 500 this year. Sometime you can run into drivers just around the track. When I was at Bristol last year I saw Kurt Busch at his souvenir trailer. And I was at the Martinsville race the week after Vickers wrecked Jr. and Johnson at Talladega. His golf cart was taking him out of the track after the race, and the road crosses the exit path from the backside grandstands. He had to wait for a break in the sea of humanity, and while he was stopped he was being conversely heckled and cheered by the crowd, but he took it in stride and talked to people. I saw Mark Martin and Kasey Kahne in the same spot the next year.

  9. I don't know. You might have a chance with a crew chief, but drivers are usually pretty busy during race weekend.
