Do I have a drinking problem??

I sometimes drink 2 or 3 weeknights and I'll have either a couple beers or a couple glasses of wine. On the weekends, however, I go out and party and drink anywhere from 6 to 8 beers (sometimes this includes the occassional jagger bomb or two). I am 21 years old. Is this normal??

  1. It becomes a problem when drinking effects you life in a negative way and you can't stop drinking. I'd say your fairly normal but watch out for signs losing control.

  2. Think of the most indulgent, high calorie, dessert that you love. Now, knowing  all the negative effects it has on your body, imagine yourself eating 2 or three of them 2-3 weeknights and 6-8 of them on the weekends. Would you think it was a bit much?? Regardless of whether you are drunk or not, that is doing some serious damage to your liver, possibly your brain depending on your level of intoxication. Definitely causing problems with your mom. And remember, right now you are probably burning calories left and right, but that will slow down, at which point you will be stuck with the habit of consuming numerous calories you won't be able to burn. Is that what you want to look like in your 30's? If so, drink up!

  3. Just don't drive thru my neighborhood.

  4. no buddy i have the drinking problem 18 get wasted everyday no ur 21.

  5. no lol your 21 and enjoying the fact that you can buy beer legally and drink it legally your like me only i cant buy beer legally im 17 but w.e you like to havbe a good time so wat

dont let someone call you an alcoholic if u can controll yourself its not like you are feening for it every second of the day

    party it up

  6. It is very normal for a 21 year old to drink a tad bit more then someone who is 40 or 50 years old.   At 21 you are still experimenting and finding your way to adulthood... what would not be normal, however, would be if you were older and still partying so much....   If you don't slow this pattern down a bit once you reach around 30, then you MIGHT be headed into the world of alcoholism... but for now you are pretty normal....

  7. Congratulations you made it! Well you have to die of something don't you?

  8. I would say thats normal for a 21 year old whose still in school, but if you continue drinking like that when you are 28 and working, then it would be considered a drinking problem.  Or move to Ireland then its normal.

  9. Yes you do.  At least you are heavy drinker.  If your mom is worried then chances are they are for a reason.  Like the other person said, these things sneak up on you and before you know it is a problem.

However, since drinking isn't the only way to have fun, stop drinking for a while or at least cut back. It will make your mom happy and I'll bet you start to have more fun on the weekends when you don't have to take hours to recover from a hangover.

Usually someone who says they only have a couple of beers means they have 3 or 4 beers.  They just refuse to count the others cause its only every once in while.

  10. I think you sound like a typical 21 year old so don't feel bad. I drank a fair amount in college too. However with that said, you could be experiencing the early stages of a drinking problem if this pattern continues into adulthood. Be smart!

  11. I'd say so, as long as your not get getting **** faced on a daily basis.

  12. I am the same way as you 21 years old and a social drinker. This is what I have been told I am not an alcoholic unless it affects your work/school/relationships. However the books do say if you drink more than twice a week you need help. I drink to relax and to have a good time. If your involvement with alcohol gets you a dwi or worse you get with-drawls when you stop for a few days then you have a problem.

  13. Give it up for a good while and see how it goes.  Problems sneak up--no one ever really thinks they have a problem, but sometimes do.  If someone is telling me I have a problem, maybe I do , maybe I don't, but don't take a chance.  Give it up for a month or so, and see if you see things differently.

  14. well i wouldnt think so because college students who r just starting out might only be about 18 and they drink like CRAZYY..im 19.....i only drink mayb a beer 2 nights outta the week....but on the weekends or if theres a few parties i can go for atleast 6 beers by myself...not to mention probaly 3 cups of the more "potent" spirits!! jus keep your composure!
