I'm 21 years old. I stand 4' 11". I weigh 95lbs as of now. When I'm toned up and lifting weights i get up to 105lbs. And I'm a female. Do I have what it takes to compete with the guys?

  1. probably not.  jockeys are very short and lightweight and they know how to handle race horses

  2. YEP you sure do ""

But do you have the heart ?

Its allot tougher then it looks!!

    But Yes,, your perfect

    Go for it

I did I was 20yr and 5,2 and weighed 105 I had to loose a few pounds ..And I did fine

  3. I say, if it is what you want to do...TRY!  I mean I know you have to be pretty short to be a jocky but I would try if I was you.  Plus, you don't have to go professional.  Anyway, just follow yer dreams, ya here?!! :)

  4. no

    you are too tall

  5. one thing you need is a small bone structure.  if you can circle your wrist with your thumb and middle finger, you have a small frame.  good thigh muscles, tones not bulked, are an asset.

  6. Seems you certainly do qualify sizewise. I don't know why thoroughbred racing is dominated by men. There are women jockeys and I think there would be a lot more if, as I suspect, there was not a gender bias in getting the best mounts. Go for it!

  7. If you are serious about wanting a chance at a career as a jockey, I say go for it!

First, you will be handling 1200 pound beasts at very high speeds, strength is needed...in other words, go ahead and bulk up to the 105!

Second, Hall of Fame Jockey Chris McCarron runs the North American Racing Acedemy near Lexington Kentucky. It is located at the Kentucky Horse Park and is the only training facility in the United States.  If you want a great way to learn the trade and have an inside passage to the industry...this is the method I would take....the lessons and experience, you can get nowhere else!  His first graduates have just started riding in races, you can follow them in the Daily Racing Form and Bloodhorse magazine, websites!

    Good luck and best wishes!
