I'm a bit soft-spoken? I'm not shy, I'm just kind of quiet but I have no problem being friendly when I need to be. I'm afraid they're looking for really loud, outgoing people for that position and I'm just more of a laid-back, mellow person.

  1. It's not about the level of tone like how loud you are but the sternness off it like speaking with confidence, with authority without verbally putting the customer down and being unshakable.

For instance, you could get a difficult person approaching the front desk and they feel that they must cause a commotion to get what they want. You have to sternly but professionally tell them that you can help them or that you can refer them to someone who can. As long a you talk at a range where people can here you, being soft spoken should have nothing to do with it if you use the technique above.

Just don't be nervous and do as best you can with your references (if any); include a professional personality with a bit of a sense of humor and you'll do fine. Look up some interview question to get a feel of what's going on. Try to do a search of receptionists for community centers or non-profit before you go.

    Good luck!

  2. It shouldn't be a problem. You just need to be able to have the confidence to deal with all sorts of people and situations. It doesn't matter if you're not the loudest person out, i'm a receptionist and i'm fairly quiet like you.
