Question:

Do I have a good chance of re-enlisting?

I was discharged over 10 years ago and I am receiving a 20% disability. Since then I feel my injury has gotten better and I believe I am capable of doing a soldiers duty. I understand that I have to have a waiver to get in, but is that a realistic one for me. My DD214 has a code 3 for re-entry. I was a mechanic but wanted to go in as a HR Spec. is that possible? Also would I have to complete Basic again or do WTC? I was an E4 at the time of discharge would I be able to maintain my rank?

Thanks for any help on understanding my options.

  2. I COULDNT CARE LESS JUST FORGET IT!

  3. If you know longer feel that you are "20% disabled" I would suggest that you stop collecting for it.

  4. You can contact a recruiter about it and request another physical to see if they consider you fit.  If you can come in they will most likely make you go through basic again.  When I went through basic in 1998 and 1999 we had a guy who was a prior service 11B and served in the Gulf War going through with us.  He was dropped to E-2 and had to redo all of his training.

  5. The cards may be stacked against you, but the military is somewhat desperate right now.  Talk to a recruiter, and see what they tell you.  Proving to the doctors that you're healthy will be the biggest obstacle.
