Do I have any recourse when I ordered something on line with an e-check, they have the money I have no product

The place does not answer the phone. Am I screwed?

  1. It depends on whether the check has been processed as cleared or as a hold.  

    I ordered something this month that was out of stock and the reserve that was put on my checking account stayed there for 5 days before dropping off, because that is how checking-charges work.  If they cleared your check, it can take as much as a week before the refund travels back to your account - even though the store may already have sent it.

    The banks are entitled to these delays by law - and many of them use them to the fullest.  The speed of electronic transactions only works when taking money FROM your account.


  2. can you call the bank and put a stop on the e-check like a regular check? try that. contact the issuer of the e-check, tell them what happened. i'm sure they'll comply. good luck!
