Do I have enough time?

I'm 16 and I golf. My handicap is 16 right now. I would really like to become a golf professional in the future. I am willing to devote nearly all of my time to golf. Is it too late for me to become a Pro or not?

  1. It is not too late - but you need to be willing to sacrafice a lot of other areas of your life to focus on golf.

  2. Or course it's not too late. You're still very young, and a person can play professionally into their early 60s.

That being said, go into expecting to fail. I'm not saying your shouldn't work as hard as you can, but statistically you've got a .00001% chance of going pro, and you have to be realistic. Your primary goal in life right now should be getting into college.  Your secondary goal should be getting good enough at golf to get a scholarship. Your third goal should be to try to go pro after you graduate college, and by then you'll know if you've got what it takes.

    Good luck.

  3. For me, it's not too late for you to pursue your dream of professional golf.  Professional golf has changed so much, and I think that it has lots to do with fitness, equipment, and getting the correct coaching.  There are also lots of golf videos out there that weren't available in the past years.  Also, professional golf doesn't mean you have to be young anymore.  If you perfect your game within the next 34 years, you would be eligible for the Senior Tour.

I think with anything, it's important to plan and to set reasonable goals for yourself...for example...what handicap would you want to be when you're 20...etc.?

  4. No, its not too late but…practice, short game, putting, playing a ton, .0001% chance….bla bla bla.

This is how to do it, first, write down goals, example:

    1. Make the golf team.

    2. Be competitive.

    3. Be the best player at you school.

    4. Become a single digit handicap.

    5. Win a tournament.

    6. Get a scholarship to college.

    7. Play 4 years in college, get educated.

    8. Be the best player at your school.

    9. Win.

    10…

My point is, no one becomes a pro-golfer. You will have 100s of goals and steps before you ever have worry about being a pro.

Write down a large set of goals for the next 10 years, it will look overwhelming, don’t worry. Break down every goal down into smaller more manageable goals. Then write down what you are going to do today! And do it!

    Good luck!

Be patient, but focused, golf can be cruel

  5. Short answer is NO.  When I was your age, I was around your skill level.  Tens years later, constant practice whether its chipping, putter, pitching, driving whatever the case may be, I am 24/7 golf; with a handicap of 1.  My biggest advice to you is make sure to upgrade youe equipment as you continue to become a better golfer, do not skimp.  Just put your mind to it, practice every chance you get and the sky is the limit, now go do it to it!

  6. Absolutelly not late....  the question is, how much time you have to practice...  if you dont have time then your dream only will become your next dream.... You have to make your time to practice... I'm sure you still a student, so.. study first then practice,,, study and practice.. If you do thhis with dicipline, then yes.. you have enough time.
