1) When I'm home I'm serious, quiet and a little cold. My mom described me as "emotionless".

2) When I'm with my friends I'm loud, dirty mouthed ( I curse ALOT), "mean", boy crazy, and just crazy in general. [not the mental way]

3) When I meet grown ups, I'm polite, nice and "innocent". (Quoted from grownups when they describe me)

4) At school, I'm generally the "nerd" that sucks up to teachers, does every bit of homework, and gets good grades.

I always thought it was normal to "adapt" the best suited personality for whatever occasions and it just grew on me.

I'm not faking the emotions. It's like I enter a new setting and my body just automatically acts that way. Is this what people call "split personalities"?

  1. No. Those people are misinformed. Different personalities in different situations is firstly normal (you were right, it's reaction to the social situation, totally ok and common) and second this is not "split personality" - actually called Dissociative Identity Disorders. Because when it's DID, you have no control over the switch, and you *don't* recall what happened when the other persona was in charge. DID is far more extreme and dehabilitating than anything like this and very, very rare.

  2. we all do it. you are just more aware than most because of the wide divergence in your "persona's". split personality is a whole different thing.

  3. im the EXACT same

i guess u just react differently to different ppl

  4. I don't think they're referring to the medical definition when they say that. They probably mean you just seem of two different minds.

We all do this in our own way. We all act differently with different social groups. We act one way with our parents, another with friends.

    With strangers vs. with acquaintances.

People say I have split personalities, as I am a Gemini, am moody and indecisive. My moods and my decisions can fluctuate quite wildly. My adventurous side is constantly fighting with my conservative side.

  5. Becky, no you don't have split personalities what you do process however is the faculties of understanding the benefit of being flexible enough to get along in this world and believe me, this is quite rare.  Instead of being concerned you should be glad to be able to adjust to various circumstances. This is the definition of a split personality or in psychological terms "schizophrenia"

Schizophrenia is a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.  So you see, you are just a wise person who can adjust her behavior.  Hope this helps.

  6. you arent mental.. you are normal and well adjusted.
