I gave a divorce lawyer $7,500 retainer after several months I receive a bill that shows i now have passed the retainer fee and am up to near $13,000 The bill was itemized but many of the charges are from him reviewing correspondence from the other attorney and the court. I have not seen these, do I have the right to ask for prove before paying. remainder of bill

    hi

  4. Absolutely!

  5. definitely

  6. I usually look those questions up on the ABA website for your rights.

Also, did you call your attorney a lot?  When you call them and talk to them, the clock is ticking.  Did they have a paralegal working on the case?  Their time is billable as well.  I recommend talking your concerns over with your attorney.  Also, you can look things up on the American Bar Associations website, you might have your answer there.

    Good Luck.
