Question:

Do I have the right to know my legal insurance firm included in my car insurance policy?

I had a car accident and I believe it was third party’s fault. I have a comprehensive cover policy and legal insurance with it. My insurance company is not keen to sort things out. After two months since I sent the report, there is no further response at all. I have been keeping sending them emails but no response so far. I suspect that, due to the possible payout is small, they do not want to use the solicitor because the solicitor fees are more expensive then payout. Do I have the right to know my legal insurance firm? Can I contact them directly and ask for help?

  1. yes you do and yes you can! check your policy booklet for the name of the firm who they use. some insurers out source them and others have their own in house legal team. if you cant find it in your policy booklet, look on your demands and needs that you had at inception of the policy and they will be noted on there if you cant get sense over the phone from the claims dept

  2. Need more information to advise further but you said:

This makes it sound as if you have bought your insurance through a broker.

Also assuming that you are in UK.

If that is true it is the broker that you should be chasing – after all they were paid commission by the insurance company for placing the insurance business with them.

Brokers only get paid commission on premiums not claims so there is no financial incentive for them to chase claims – but they should.

Your insurance company name will be on your Insurance Certificate.

If you have get your insurance through a broker keep chasing them – if you bypass them and go straight to the insurance company you are giving them the opportunity to ‘duck out’ of the situation.

  3. Use the search engine like google or yahoo to brainstorm some ideas first if you want to obtain the massive information,if you do not want to spend too much time, here is a good resource for your reference about your questions.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  4. you have the that right , also you have the right to go the ombudsman with any policy matter anything at all due to the FAIS act the insurance company is to keep nothing from you and disclose everything so ask y go onto hello peter and tell the world of your experience , good luck

  5. I think you'll find your legal insurance is to provide legal advice & representation for you if you are accused of something, i.e. for your defence. It won't help you with what you're having trouble with.

It might be better to ring the insurers and speak to them direct, rather than e-mail, which anyone can either delete or ignore. Demand to speak to whoever is dealing with your case, and take notes.

  6. If your comp covered there should be no quiblin from your insurer, who should pay out imediatley then go after their money if need be from the other parties insurers.

Your legal cover will be through any number of law firms, or could be inhouse. It is a bit of a con really as it only cover extraneous claims from the third party, all other claims are normally covered by your normal policy. Your insurers won't pass on the firms details and dont have to as youve paid them to deal with any claim through your policy.

  7. Yea! You're on the right way!
