I live in California and i recently got my drivers license. I am 17 and still in high school. My dad says i can't drive because i'm not insured even though the car i'm gonna be driving is insured. If i crash what would happen? My friends tell me that only the car needs insurance for me to drive. Who's right?

  1. I'm no expert on this, but I would suggest you have a look here, there is expert's ideas you mayfind.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  2. Just have proof of insurance with you.

  3. no the car needs to be insured in your name. if not the damages will not be covered (for the most part).

what you need to do is have your name added onto the insured car holders policy(probably your dad's policy).

    goodluck

  4. MarcDaShark, For car insurance the easiest way to get a low quote is do a auto policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage levels, you can get an quick quote to compare against others. Use the same city/state, auto make/model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get accurate comparison. To get mulitple auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.multipleautoinsurancequotes.c... and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies.

  5. HI!

You have to be insured under your dad's insurance(even though the car is insured already,if the car is not in your name you have to be added under the owner's insurance ) because if you crash your dad would have to pay out of pocket since you are not on his insurance. It cost a lot more money to add a minor on your insurance which is most likely  why he doesn't want to add you on. Hope this was helpful.

  6. It depends how your parents have set up their insurance. They may only have fully licensed drivers noted to drive the car or people over a certain age (usually over 25). It is common for insuarance policies to have specified drivers or only drivers over 25 as it cuts down on premiums. But then again your dad just might not want you to drive his car, especially if it is a nice one.
