I have a horse show in a couple of weeks, I'm going to be jumping. I was wondering if you have to braid both the mane and the tail. I want to braid just the tail, because I'm really bad with the mane!

  1. no just if you want to

  2. it depends on what breed your going to show and what kind of show rated ect.

you dont HAVE to do anything unless you are doin inhand stuff or are in a high rater show. it just looks better. for jumping they are more concerned about how you execute the jumps and patterns

the way i was taught is braid it all or nothing at all.

when you braid just one (tail or mane) people can tell you didnt do the other cuz you dont know how

you can get away with just the mane sometimes, people assuming your horses top tail is to short.

peronally i know what you mean, so just keep practicing and for this first show, do just the tail

If you show an arabian, or any other breed like that you never have to braid anything but tbs, and qh usually always get bradied.

if you horse has a pulled mane that is short and even you can band it, thats more western but it shows you put in the effort.

Good Luck and have fun at your show!

  3. I show Tennessee Walking Horses...it depends what kind of horse you have but for general Hunter/Jumper shows you only need to braid the mane...that's what we do...an easy way to braid the mane is to cut it really short, and then just braid it really tight...it's not that difficult...or just have your trainer(if you have one) do it for you....Good Luck!

  4. You don't say if this is a schooling show or a recognized show, or if you are a hunter or a jumper rider. If you are a hunter rider, and you are competing in hunter classes, then yes, you DO need to braid both the mane and the tail. If you are a JUMPER, however, then you will not have to braid either one, as long as it isn't too long. Many jumper riders DO braid their horse's manes, though, because it looks really nice to have a neatly braided mane. If you are worried about not being able to braid yourself, then ask around and see if there is someone at your barn who can braid for you. You can also ask your trainer or coach if they know anyone who can braid. Good luck at the show.

  5. Braiding of the mane is traditional, however braiding of the tail is quite ridiculous to me! Changing the way a horse feels it s tale can only be a distraction to the horse, regardless if someone thinks its attractive!

  6. I wouldn't think so because if you just do the mane then it would look bad right? So do what looks good. Even if it looked the best with both braided, if you braided the mane it wouldn't look good. Know what I'm saying? lol

I would just stick w/ the tail then.
