Do I have to charge sales tax if I am self employed and providing lawn maintanence service???

Thanks All.........I am registered with the state and I talked to them about it and I DO have to charge sales tax

  1. Being self employed is irrelevant.  The only thing that matters is if lawn maintenance service is a taxable service in your State.  In my state it became taxable last year but had never been taxable before.


  2. That completely depends on what state and even the county/parish your business does business in.

    Sorry there is not quick answer to this one. You have to call your local government and see if they qualify this service as taxable.

  3. You need to register with the state.

    Most states do not charge tax on services, only physical goods. Check with your state to see that you even need to collect tax.

  4. i do agree that you need to register your business but sales tax is not required.....my father has successfully run his lawn maintenance business for about ten years and has not once charged taxes....much luck to ya
