Do I have to clear customs at Heathrow if I am connecting to Edinburgh?

My daughter and I are moving to Scotland while I am studying for a master's degree there. We will be routing to Edinburgh via Heathrow. I have never travelled internationally before and need to know whether and how our checked baggage is handled in term of customs.

  1. I believe that you have to fill a form from Customs in which you will specify all your baggage and all personal belongings, and presumably your daughter's and your baggage will be inspected prior to Departure at Heathrow Airport.

Here are two links that will help you.

    Godspeed.

  2. your baggage will be checked when you arrive at the airport wherever you are flying from, if your flights are connecting and you booked it as one flight then your bags will be checked right through and you won't see them until edinburgh. If you booked separately then you will need to check them in again and you will have to go through customs. Check with your airline who will be able to confirm this!

  3. you will go through immigration at your first entry to the country, which is going to be Heathrow ... the flight to Edinburgh is internal and would not be subject to the same immigration formalities

however I'm not certain about your baggage ... you would need to check with your airline as to whether it's going to be transferred automatically to the Edinburgh flight or whether you need to collect it and then check it in again for the next flight
