  1. No. If you have city water and it contains chlorine, you may want to give them distilled or spring water to drink though.

  2. No you don't.  If you simply let the water sit out in a glass or leave the top off of the squirt bottle for a day before you mist them the chlorine will evaporate out.  I promise you that aged water (water left out for 24 hrs) is just as good as conditioned water, but without using any chemicals.  24 hours is all it takes and your tap water will be fine to use without spending any unnecessary money.

    Good luck

  3. yes you have to if you dont theyll develope blisters on their gills and slowy die due to water polution.

  4. If you are using tap water, then yes.But you could buy a jug of distilled water to spray them with.

  5. yes you do so they don't get sick form the chlorine . do you have a water purifier  or a  Reverse Osmosis if you have both your fine .....

other ways just stick to the water conditioner.you can do the misting to but if you get a hafe of a clam shell you should be fine . and just to let you know painted shell's may look cool but are not for the crab because they usually scrap their shell's for nutrience. hope i helped !

  6. Harley_Barnard is both right and wrong. Leaving chlorinated tap water in a jug exposed to the air will eliminate the chlorine after a day or so... BUT that still won't make it safe enough to use! Most municipal sources also add chloramines to the water, not chlorine alone. Chloramines are chemical compounds that contain chlorine and nitrogen. Chloramines will not evaporate out of the water no matter how long you let it sit, and they are just as dangerous and harmful as plain chlorine to hermit crabs, so you should always treat tap water with an appropriate de-chlorinator to remove both.

  7. If you do not remove the chlorine and heavy metals from the water then it will burn the hermit crabs sensitive gills. Any water that is used for the crabs needs to be chlorine free.
